For centuries man has looked for connections between the physical world and the spiritual world, and attempted to use those connections for a variety of purposes. One such purpose is the healing of the mind, body, and spirit. The use of healing crystals creates a bridge of sorts that allows for a connection between man and the elements that make up the universe.
Proponents of healing via crystals believe that humans have multiple chakra (from the Sanskrit meaning wheel), or wheels of energy that are constantly vibrating and rotating around them. These wheels are fixed at points along the spine that serve as the wheels’ centerpoint. Each chakra vibrates and spins at different rates, with the lowest chakra the slowest, the highest chakra the fastest. The first chakra is fixed at the base of the spine, the seventh at the crown of the head.
The physical nature of crystals is such that each type is attuned to vibrations at a different frequency from other crystal types. The healing crystals match the vibrations and energy produced by the different chakra. Each chakra can be stimulated by crystals of the color that matches the chakra’s, and by colors that are complementary. If a chakra becomes out of balance, vibrating or spinning too fast or too slow, the body is affected. The ailments may be physical, mental, or spiritual in nature. Healing crystals can be used to reattune the body’s chakra, to bring them back into balance.
The First Chakra, located at the base of the spine between the tailbone and the pubic bone, is the root chakra. The root chakra’s colors are red, brown, and black. The crystals used to stimulate it are Obsidian, Smoky Quartz, and Garnet. The element for this chakra is Earth. This chakra governs material drive and elimination.
The Second Chakra, the Belly, is fixed at the stomach, just below the navel, and centered at the spine. Its color is orange, and the crystals used for it include Tiger’s Eye, Orange Calcite, and Carnelian. The aspects governed by the Belly are sensual drive and reproduction. The element for the Second Chakra is Water.
The Third Chakra is located between the breastbone and the navel. It is the seat of the will and governs digestion. If this chakra is out of balance, it can cause physical symptoms such as stomach and digestion issues, diabetes, even liver problems. The color is yellow, and is best stimulated by Topaz, Citrine, and Yellow Calcite. The element is Fire.
The Fourth Chakra is also known as the Heart Chakra. It can be found fixed just behind the breast bone. The Heart Chakra is the home for love for oneself and for others. It is also the home for spirituality. This chkra is also the joining point for the three disparate parts of a person: mind, body, and spirit. If a person is feeling sorry for themselves, afraid to get into a relationship or even afraid to get out of a relationship, they may be suffering from an imbalance in this chakra. On the phyysical side, heart disease, insomnia, and high blood pressure are warnings of a potential imbalance. The colors are pink and green, the crystals include Rose Quartz and Kunzite. The element is Air.
The Fifth Chakra is the Throat, located at the base of the throat, in the soft spot in front of the collarbone. The Throat governs communication and creativity and when there are issues the results can be feeling timid or having an inability to express oneselves through words-written or spoken. The color is light blue, the crystals Aquamarine and Azurite. The element is Ether-an ethereal, spiritual element. The higher up the chakra tree, the further the distance from the physical plane, and the further into the spiritual plane a person goes.
The Sixth Chakra is also known as the Third Eye. Located in the cyclopean spot just above the physical eyes right in the center of the forehead. Psychic abilities and intuitian emanate from here. The colors are purple and dark blue, the crystals Amethyst and Lapis Lazuli. The Sixth Chakra is not tied to any earthly element.
The Seventh Chakra is also known as the Crown. The Crown is located just behind the top of the skull and is the center of enlightenment, spirituality and complex thought. It is mankinds connection to the cosmic consciousness. Headaches and depression are symptoms of this chakra being out of balance. The colors are white and purple, the crystals are Amethyst, Clear Quartz, and Oregon Opal. The Seventh Chakra is not tied to any earthly element.
